Modern Entity Showcase: Tropics [UK] + Sarah & Collin [US]

If Mount Kimbie, M83 or Little Dragon are part of your musical vocabulary, the Modern Entity showcase should be on your radar. Taking over Palác Akropolis, the night brings together two distinct sides of the contemporary Los Angeles alternative scene: Tropics, the project of Christopher Ward, whose atmospheric electronics have long caught the attention of Pitchfork and The Fader, and Sarah & Collin, a duo blending art-pop with cinematic psychedelia. Both projects are connected through Modern Entity, a label where electronic music, indie and pop meet without much concern for genre boundaries. For Spectaculare, the night offers a focused snapshot of what is currently emerging from Los Angeles – exactly the kind of booking through which festival programmer Josef Sedloň brings Prague audiences music beyond the usual circuit of familiar names.

Behind Tropics is British-born, Los Angeles-based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Ward. Since his early releases on cult label Planet Mu, his music has moved from hazy electronics and trip-hop towards the rawer palette of his latest album Reality Fever, where electronic production collides with post-punk, indie rock and psychedelia. Ward has remixed M83 and Little Dragon, while his own work has been covered by Pitchfork, The Fader and Resident Advisor. Reality Fever pushes Tropics into a tougher, more immediate space, giving live instrumentation, rougher textures and rhythm more room alongside the melancholy that has long defined his sound.

Sarah & Collin represent a younger strand of the same Los Angeles community. On their debut album This Time, Sarah Yocute and Collin Simas combine art-pop, textured electronics and psychedelia with a distinctly cinematic sensibility. Under the Radar has highlighted precisely this ability to move between songwriting and soundtrack-like atmosphere. Rooted in Los Angeles’ independent DIY scene, the pair developed their layered live sets through unconventional performance spaces and close collaboration with the local creative community. Modern Entity provides a natural home for music that sits somewhere between electronic production, a live-band sensibility and experimentation.

The concert takes place as part of the 14th edition of the multi-genre Spectaculare festival, unfolding across a range of Prague venues throughout March and April 2027
